My word, Word Lens

I downloaded and tried it and was blown away. It has that tingly excitement of a Hollywood promise, realised. I don’t speak Spanish, so I can’t comment on how accurate the translations are, but the speed and presentation is a joy to behold.

The thing I like most about this (aside from the sheer emotive wonder of it) is that although it’s an entirely new experience, it requires no behaviour shift. The mechanic (raise phone, point) becomes instantly invisible, leaving only the magic. This, arguably is something one can’t claim with Qwiki.

Weirdly, the 90° tilt shown in the video isn’t working for me. Would also like a way to export the images. But then again, I should also shut up and marvel at it, because EVERYTHING IS AMAZING:

Save it as a WWF

This is exactly the sort of idea I want to say I came up with. But, alas I didn’t. From my light research, I believe Jung Von Matt, in Germany created it with/for WWF.

Instead of ‘talking about’ saving trees (yawn), they’ve created a new file format: *.WWF

A WWF file is basically a PDF that can’t be printed. So by creating and sharing WWF files, people can express their support of WWF, propagate their message and actually impact on the amount of paper being used. The word genius is over-used these days, but I feel it’s deserved here.

The tough/interesting part will be trying to get people to use this file format long-term, which requires a wide-spread behaviour change. It will be most powerful if it genuinely becomes a part of culture. Otherwise it will only be effective as far as its novelty and ingenuity will propel it. I truly hope this gets used.

How to explore

This is what you should do when you’re asked to explore a brief for a client. Except the dribbling and possible pooping.

Balls to africa

Hopefully the provocative (albeit childish) headline got your attention. This post isn’t about me, it’s about a man called Neil who is about to become an important part of this charming project to give footballs to children in the poorest parts of Africa. It might sound trivial – in comparison to requests for clean water or medicine – but I think it’s a sweet way to open the door to a longer-term conversation about basic rights.

His blog post explains it in full. Maybe you can help him.

Smashable guitar

Speaks for itself really. I particularly like the ‘coffin’ you send it back in to be recycled.

Epic win app

This is genius. Well done Rex:

It builds on thinking I first saw here:

Maybe the next step will be seeing a version that tackles some of this stuff:

Can’t wait to see and try the app.

chrome speed tests

I really like this  – along with the other Chrome ads – along with everyone else.

I especially love the wonderful balance they strike between the extravagant-contraption-in-production-studio vernacular and a test that is actually plausible. A joy to watch; curious; fun; sensational and a clear and believable message. Tick, tick, tick etc.
